DECEMBER GARDENING

A fairly easy month in the garden, with only some small pottering jobs to do which is just as well really as the cold days don’t encourage activity in the garden. It’s time for other things especially around the holiday period.

I like some time off over Christmas and it’s a time for friends and family but there are one or two, not very stressful or difficult things to be done.

Keep an eye on your bulbs and plants in general just in case something has gone awry with them but you don’t need to much else.

Water and care for your house plants and make sure that any outdoor plants that have any form of frost protection on them are still kept well.

December is a good month to take cuttings from Azaleas, Rhododendrons, Daphne, etc, Keep the cuttings in a good light and in a warm area. Don’t let them dry out.

Poinsettias and Christmas Cactus should be looking good now and any Christmas flowering bulbs will hopefully pop out in the days leading up to Christmas as well.

Have a great holiday period and relax in the warmth.

Why not dig out those Gardening Magazines or check out GardeningMonthly.com as you churn ideas in your head for the coming year in the garden.
